There’s something about a fall wedding that makes everything feel a little warmer. As the air gets cooler and the days grow shorter, gathering everyone you love in one place feels especially meaningful.
Over the years, we’ve hosted so many beautiful fall weddings at The Rickhouse, each with its own colors, traditions, personalities, and little moments worth remembering. So, in honor of the season, we’re rounding up a few of our favorite fall wedding moments in Durham, NC.
A Ceremony Surrounded by Fall Color
Fall has a way of creating its own wedding décor. From changing leaves around downtown Durham to warm afternoon light pouring into The Rickhouse, the season makes an already-special ceremony feel even more romantic.
We especially love ceremonies filled with autumn-inspired florals, whether that means rich burgundy and rust, soft peach and golden yellow, or plenty of greenery. And while we love a classic fall palette, some of our favorite autumn weddings prove that you don’t need orange everywhere to embrace the season.

Cocktail Hour on the Patio
Crisp, comfortable fall afternoons are perfect for cocktail hour. After the ceremony, guests can head outside to the patio for drinks and conversation before the reception begins inside.
It’s one of those in-between parts of a wedding day that we love: everyone has arrived, the celebration has officially begun, and friends and family finally have time to catch up.

Cozy Tables Made for Gathering
Long tables, candlelight, lush florals, colorful linens, handwritten place cards—we love seeing how couples make the Grand Room their own. But our favorite part is what happens once everyone takes their seats. A wedding dinner is one of the rare opportunities to have so many of your favorite people sharing a meal, telling stories, and celebrating together. In the fall, that feeling of gathering seems even cozier.

Sneaking Outside for Fall Portraits
Downtown Durham gives couples plenty of opportunities to step outside for portraits throughout the day. Historic brick, colorful foliage, industrial architecture, and the area surrounding The Rickhouse all make beautiful backdrops for fall wedding photos.

Ending the Night on the Dance Floor
Once dinner is over and the formalities are finished, there’s only one thing left to do: celebrate.
There’s nothing quite like looking across the Grand Room and seeing a packed dance floor filled with the people who traveled from near and far to be there. After a day full of thoughtful details and beautiful décor, these are often the wonderfully imperfect, joy-filled moments that couples remember most.
